Come and join Wanaka Water Taxi on a trip to their favourite place on Lake Wānaka; Mou Waho Island. Here, you can find an island, on a lake, on an island, on a lake, on an island in the sea!
Mou Waho Island is a protected nature reserve and is home to many native New Zealand birds including the curious and flightless Weka. A short walk takes you to the top of the island where you will be exposed to breathtaking panoramic views of the Arethusa pool, Lake Wānaka and its surrounding peaks.
Wanaka Water Taxi leaves Wānaka Marina daily, travelling 15km up Lake Wānaka, passing Mou Tapu Island and the steep cliff of Fisherman’s Cove to Mou Waho Island. Making a few stops along the way, their friendly and knowledgeable skipper will inform you about the history of the area and the fascinating geology of the alps and the glaciers that created the lake as you travel along its sparkling waters.
Stay for 1.5 hours on the island to explore it at your own pace before heading back to shore.
KIDS GO FREE* on our Mou Waho Island Tours! (1 child per adult, 5-15 years)
You can also take the Wanaka Water Taxi to the biking and hiking trails!
Hop on the boat to the Outlet Camp for a nice and easy family bike ride back to town (or the other way around of course!). Enjoy the beautiful Millennium Track, or go bigger and try out the West Wānaka Track, where you can bike all the way back to town.
